spider-attack

Ever since I watched the movie Arachnophobia I have always been weary 0of spiders in the shower.   It isn’t like I though they would come out of the drain and the shower head like in the movie, but I was always suspicious that one would jump on me if I turned my back.

There was a spider a spider hanging around the shower for a couple days. I would blow on it and it would come towards me instead of running away.  The steam would usually chase it away.

This morning it wasn’t moving anywhere. I blew on it and it would hunker down and then move towards me when I stopped. Since the movie this wasn’t the first time since a spider has been in the shower and I have never seriously thought I would have an Arachnophobia moment.

So there I was keeping an eye on that spider. I noticed it put its legs together on either side and I thought jokingly to myself that it was getting ready to pounce.

I turned my back and seconds later I looked down and saw the spider curled up in the water on its way to the drain.  I couldn’t help smiling at the effort the little spider went through to get me.

Now that I have proof that spiders attack while in the shower make sure you protect yourself from the spiders, the next one may not miss.

Down to Three on The Apprentice

I have skipped a few episodes of The Apprentice, and it isn’t because I stopped watching.  As the season moves on, I like the show better. In the beginning it bothered me that the contestants seemed to have a goal of protecting themselves rather than do their best and win.

This last episode was down to the final four. It was Clint and Steuart on a team and Brandy and Liza on the other.  The task was to pick a product, price it and sell it on QVC. The team with the highest profits would win.

Clint was Project Manager for his team and Liza was Project Manager for her team.  Clint and Steuart had a strategy of leading the women to believe they wanted the watch, when in reality they wanted the purse.  They also wanted the second time slot so they would have time to prepare.

I don’t know what the time slots were, but there are peak times and slow times on QVC. Last time they did a QVC task, one of the times was peak and the other was not. It would have been interesting to find out about the times.

Clint ended up getting the product and the time he wanted. It lit a fire under Brandy which was nice to see.  Brandy started out looking like a star and I was sure she was going to go to the finals.

The last three weeks, however, she looked like she checked out.  Instead of doing her best and proving she should be there, she took on the role of the victim.  She found reasons why she would be thrown under the bus if her team lost.  Her performance really dropped. I was disappointed.

I don’t know how Liza made it so far. She should have been fired in the first few weeks, but somehow was able to stay alive in the board room.  My impression of Liza is she is young and inexperienced. She doesn’t have good ideas until after the fact. There were many episodes that I wanted her to get fired, but she really wasn’t the reason the task was lost.

Steuart impressed me until he was PM. I think he is a great team member, but not a great leader.  I couldn’t see him winning, but he is talented.

Clint at first I didn’t think he would go all the way because he is definitely not a New Yorker, but I think that ended up being his advantage. He seemed to me to be an honest person with integrity. He didn’t play politics like the others.  Even when he wasn’t PM he took up the slack and did what he could.

In this task I would have picked the watches or the scarfs. The reason for those are the demographics. Women around 50+ are general into colorful watches. They also wear scarves to hid their necks.  It would have been easier to sell a lot of both items.

The purse is more expensive and with the economy the way it is, I thought women would watch their spending.

On the women’s team Brandy didn’t offer much assistance when Liza would ask for her thoughts. Her go to answer was, “It’s your decision”. I was really hoping Brandy would wake up and shine again, but she looked physically tired and worn out.

In the end, Liza won by about $800. That meant Clint and Steuart were in the board room and one of them would be fired.

I didn’t think Clint would go, but they way Brandy had been skating by I thought it would be the two men in the finals.

I was happy to see that Clint and Steuart were civil and maintained their integrity. Neither of them attacked the other. Clint just did better at selling himself and Steuart was fired.

In the next episode Trump will fire someone right away.  I have two differing thoughts about who that will be.

If Trump wants to pick the best two out of the three, he will fire Liza.  However, Liza did finally win and Brandy had been slacking off.

Everyone except Liza and her family knows she doesn’t have a chance of winning the whole thing, but Trump might really want Clint and he knows if he puts Liza against Clint, Clint will shine. He didn’t do it in the last task, but the final tasks aren’t based solely on profits.

The next episode will be exciting to see.

GSP Gets Three on The Ultimate Fighter

Mike Tyson was on at the beginning of the show and he is a pretty deep guy. He was giving the team some encouraging words and telling them not to be afraid, but to be confident. He said confidence breeds success and success breeds confidence.

He also told them that confidence needs to be applied properly.  I think that is true.  Confidence and cocky are different and confidence applied wrong is cockiness.

Koscheck’s team was pretty upset that Alex was yelling F’ Him Up during the fight.   Alex kept talking and really made Sevak mad.  He really wants to fight in the ring.

Alex, Bruce LeeRoy, decided to take on the roll of the of the guy that causes trouble in the house.  It is really too bad, because he is a funny guy.  He just got really cocky after he won his fight.

GSP still has control of the fights. He picked Kyle Watson versus Andrew Main. This is another odd match-up. They are both jui jitsu fighters. Kyle is much older and has more experience, so Team GSP feels he will win.

Koscheck is really trying to get under George St-Pierre’s skin, but it doesn’t seem to be working…yet.

It sounds like Andy is a faster and quicker fighter, but Kyle is slow, methodical, stronger, and seasoned.  I will give this fight to Kyle, but Andy looks like he could get the upset win.

Team GSP did a lot of psychological training for Kyle. They rehearsed his entry, did a mock fight and they raised his hand at the end.  I haven’t seen that type of psychological preparation on the show before. We’ll see if it pays off.

They fight started and they both had similar plans; punch and kick a little and find an opening for a take down. They both landed some good strikes and it went to the fence.

Andy jumped on Kyle’s back and got his hooks in while standing. Kyle did good controlling Andy’s arms from getting a choke, but Andy was able to score some rabbit punches.

It finally went to the ground, but Kyle didn’t quite get Andy off on the drop.  Kyle was able to get on top and escape the cumorah attempt.  This is where Kyle is supposed to dominate.

Andy did a good job keeping Kyle off.  Kyle was able to land a hard strike on another attempt at getting on top and he was pulled into Andy’s guard.  Kyle couldn’t control Andy on the ground.  He just needed to look like he was punishing him for the last 30 seconds and he would win the round, which he was able to accomplish.

Kyle won the first round, but Andy is not to be taken lightly.

The second round started like the first. Andy threw strikes and kicks while Kyle waited for timing. Andy went in swinging and Kyle was able to take him down within 30 seconds of the round.

Andy attempted a triangle which allowed Kyle to move into side mount.  Andy was able to pull him back into half guard.  Kyle didn’t strike much which was surprising.

Kyle got up to try to get a better position and ended up taking Andy’s back with a weak body lock on him, but then transitioned to planting his hooks. He was able to lock in a rear naked choke for the win.

Koscheck was pretty upset about it and started to kicking things. Josh walked out before the announcement was made.  He was able to gain control before he spoke with Andy.

It was a pretty good episode. Nothing out of control yet, but they showed scenes that still haven’t happened.  Bruce LeeRoy looks like his is trying to get hit, but we’ll see what happens.

Printable Flash Cards Website

I made a set of cute flash cards to print out and help my son with his math, and thought you might want some too! Once I figure out how to make them downloadable (advice?) I´ll put them on my blog over here: http://mariah.typepad.com/bidnod/Over the holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years my flash car website took a big hit in traffic. I was getting around 4000 visits a month, but during November and December my traffic dropped down to just over 2000 visits a month.

This has caused me to take traffic generation for that website more seriously.  I am at the top of google for some of my keywords, but my primary keyword is still placing me many pages deep.  I haven’t done very much to get links for that keyword, but now I decided that I need to.

Here is why:

The main keyword I am targeting is printable flash cards.  When I started out looking for a niche I found that printable flash cards was searched around 40,000 times a month.

The term I am ranked for and drives the most traffic is printable number flash cards. I am number 2, but can get the number 1 spot if I do some optimizing.  Printable number flash cards is searched about 1,300 times a month.

Those are the broad results.  I figured out a few months ago that the exact numbers are the numbers to use.  Let’s go over those again.

Printable flash cards broad results – 40,500 Exact results – 8,100

Printable number flash cards broad results – 1,300 Exact results – 110

Looking at those numbers there is a big difference. I am #2 for printable number flash cards, yet I get almost all of the searches clicking on my site.

If I can get to the top 3 for printable flash cards, my site will most likely be clicked on the majority of searches.

Let’s say 70% of them click my site.  Right now I am getting a click through rate of 3.61% on my ads.  That would be 8100 x 70% = 5,670 x 3.61% = 204 x $0.046 (my average click earnings)= $9.41

These are December numbers which are low, but still not impressive. If I get my site up to the top, I would make more than $9.41 extra in an average month because the search volume increases through the school year.  I would also have more affiliate sales with the increase in traffic which would bring the earnings even higher.

Right now my page rank on the site is 1/10. My extreme sports site has a page rank of 3/10. I have written articles for the sports site and done some squidoo and hubpages stuff as well.  For the flash card site, I think I have only written one squidoo lens.

If I write 5 articles for the flash card site that should bring the site into at least the top 5 pages within 3 months.
